Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Lip Look

Tuesday, 29 December 2015
For the past year so I've been lusting over the Charlotte Tilbury website, alas, with a student budget lusting was as far as it went for me. Whilst in Selfridges Manchester a couple of weeks ago I decided bugger it and bought The Dolce Vita Look (full review to come). Over the years I've had a love/hate relationship with lip products, I struggled to find a colour that suited me, I even lived in a total state of delirium thinking I could pull of a red lip for around 6 months. 2 years ago I discovered nude shades and my life has been better for this ever since, it's safe to say now that this Charlotte Tilbury trio is sitting firmly at the top.

12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS | LUSH CHRISTMAS HAUL

Thursday, 3 December 2015
Snow Fairy shower gel
Do I really need to write a review for this? Just about everyone in the Blogosphere has come across it at some point. The candy floss scent is amazingly sweet without it being overpowering, mellowed down by slightly fruity tones.

My Little Box November 2015 'My Little Sweet Box'

Tuesday, 24 November 2015
Over the past few years the world of subscription beauty boxes has exploded! I must admit none of them have ever really taken my fancy, I always thought I'd end up with a load of samples lying around that I never used. That's when I seen My Little Box, with it's own in house beauty range and little lifestyle goodies I was instantly drawn in!

November TBR

Monday, 2 November 2015
Oh November please be kind to me....once again October was another unsuccessful month where reading was concerned for me. I only managed to get through one measly book when on average I used to read 2/3 books a week. To get me back into the swing of things I've choose 4 books from my TBR shelf that have been catching my eye for a while now!

BEAUTY | Everyday Skincare Routine

Friday, 30 October 2015
I swear this post has been harder to write than understanding the lecture I had on statistics last week! Why you may ask? My skincare routine changes daily depending on what my skin is feeling like on that day, for example today I added the Liz Earle Brightening Mask due to my skin looking dull and lacklustre this morning. As well as this I'm always trying out new products and finding out what works best for me!

Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel

Sunday, 4 October 2015
For the past year or so I've been using the Mac Brush Cleanser and I've never had a problem with it but when I was in Asda yesterday and seen Real Techniques' latest offering for only £5 I decided to give it a go!

Travel | A Day In St.Moritz

Thursday, 17 September 2015

Whilst on holiday in Milan last year Iain and myself decided to book a day excursion to go over the border into Switzerland and make a visit to St.Moritz. We booked our Swiss Alps Bernina Express tour with Viator who I couldn't recommend enough, everything was organised brilliantly and our tour guide was brilliant (as well as his English)!

Lush's The Experimenter Review

Tuesday, 15 September 2015

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks I highly doubt that you haven't heard about or seen Lush's new bath bomb 'The Experimenter' from their Oxford Street flagship store.

My Favourite Go To Eye Duo

Monday, 7 September 2015
I've never been one for buying high end mascaras, for me the drug stores offerings have always been just as good and if not better. I'd seen a lot of hype around the lash sensational in the blogosphere and when in Tesco last week noticed that they had an offer on for 2 for £10 when each of these are £7.99 each, bargain! I decided to get the Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. I bought myself the Benefit Push Up Liner last year and no matter how hard I try I just don't like it.
The main thing I love about the Lash Sensational is the wand, although it is rubber (not my favourite previously) it's curved which means you can really get into the lashes to get the definition that you're looking for. As well as this one end of the wand has shorter bristles meaning that it's ideal for the bottom lashes and prevents you from getting mascara underneath your eyes. As for the formula I've found that it does have good lasting power and it doesn't flake on you throughout the day which is a pet hate of mine.
It really does give you amazing volume! I've been unfortunately blessed with natural stubby lashes and I've even found people saying to me in the past "why don't you try wearing mascara", le sigh. It's definitely the most impressed I've been with mascara in a long time and I will be repurchasing!
As previously mentioned I bought the Benefit Push Up Liner last year and I really don't like it. Thinking about it the main problem I had with it was the fact it came in a pen, I couldn't get enough product out of it and when I did there was too much and it smudged everywhere, nightmare. I decided to pick the Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner as it included a fine brush which I'm used to using. For me the formula is amazing, creamy making it easy to apply and it rarely smudges and if it does it wiped off easily and doesn't leave traces of black smudge all over my lid. The brush included is double ended, one end being tapered and flat edged making it super easy to apply (even for liner novices like my self). The other end is a foam almost dome shaped end, apparently this can be used to smudge out the liner to create a smokey eye look but I'm yet to try this myself. My only real gripe with this product is that it's not got a great pigmentation but this can be easily solved by just applying a second layer!

September 2015 Goals

Wednesday, 2 September 2015

One of my new years resolutions this year was to start writing down my goals at the start of each month and then going back to them at the end to see what I've achieved. This month I've seen a lot of blogposts go up about bloggers personal goals so I thought why not post mine on my own blog rather than in my notepad?!
- loose 11lbs
I've been on Slimming World for 6 weeks now and I've managed to loose 1st3lbs and with my 21st just round the corner in October I'd really like to reach the 2st mark for then. I'm a bit dubious about this goal as I have a lot going on in September which includes copious amounts of alcohol and meals out! However I'm going to work my hardest to achieve this.
- read 4 books
Reading is one of my biggest passions in life and recently I've just been in a reading slump. I used to get through around 8 books on average per month and my to be read pile is just piling up higher and higher! My copy of Queen Of Shadows arrived yesterday So I'm hoping this is going to kickstart my reading off again...
- save £500
I've got a trip to Prague booked at the end of October and I really need to save some money for it! I don't plan on spending £500 on the trip to Prague but I really need to get saving some money. I've worked hard over the Summer holidays and now I'm going back to uni my shifts will be decreasing a lot. I've got my car insurance to pay off and whilst it's not a huge amount of money I just hate having things like that hanging over my head!
- succeed at uni
I'm going into my second year at university as a student nurse and my grades this year class towards my degree classification. Grades aren't everything as a student nurse, no amount of coursework and exams can teach you to sit hold someones hand and cry with them. However, I do want to go on to do my masters in the future so I need at least a 2:1.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + Review

Saturday, 29 August 2015

A week last Wednesday I won La Roche-Posay's twitter competition 'Wish Wednesday', I received a message off a member of the team on the day to say it had been dispatched and it arrived the morning after. Amazing service!
I've tried a few products from La Roche-Posay in the past such as the Serozinc and Rosalic Moisturiser and I've always been seriously impressed. The product tells us that after 24 hours it can make the skin look visibly less red and within 8 days imperfections appear significantly reduced. For me my redness is a big problem with my skin, I've always had oily skin and suffered with acne until around 2 years ago. Currently my skin is red, oily, clogged with a few scars I have leftover from my acne and of course the occasional breakout.
I've now been using this for 8 days day and night and I can already see the difference in my skin. It's a lot less red and irritable and there's no sign of any breakouts on the horizon. Another benefit of using the product is how much softer and smoother my skin has become over this past week.
I apply the Effaclar Duo after I have cleansed and moisturised in place of a moisturiser, day and night. It's made of a gel formula which is super soothing on the skin and has a mattifying effect to it making it an excellent makeup base as your makeup can stick to it!
I'm definitely going to be keeping this as part of my skincare routine for a long time coming and I'll definitely purchase it in the future! I'm also going to be looking forward to seeing what effects this can have on reducing my scars and dark spots.

My love for Apple Cider Vinegar!

Monday, 24 August 2015

My love for Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) started around 6 years ago when BubzBeauty posted a video for a scar reducing mask and toner recipe which I loved. Over the following years I went on to do more research into ACV and it's other benefits.. in this post I will be rounding up my favourite uses for it as well as other health benefits.

1) Weight loss - it's been proven in studies that ACV makes you feel more full, as well as this it also helps to regulate your blood sugars. If your blood sugar levels are constantly altering your body will store fat, this can lead to problems such as diabetes and heart disease. I'm not going to lie to you all and say it's pleasant to drink, it's not. The best way I've found to drink it is warm with 2tbsp ACV, 2 tbsp lemon juice and a dash of cinnamon.

2) Hair - ACV helps to remove the built up dirt in your hair without damaging your hairs natural oils. After I've shampooed I mist my hair with the mixture I've made up earlier, leave to soak for a few minutes then rinse thoroughly. For this I use a spray bottle that hairdressers use, fill it up with water and half a tablespoon of ACV. As well as this you can also use is as a rinse to help deal with dandruff, the ACV helps to alter the pH of the scalp. Mix two tablespoons into a glass of water then rinse your hair with it whilst in the shower.

3) Teeth whitening - gargling with this every morning helps to remove stains and bacteria from the mouth.

4) Face mask - as mentioned earlier my love affair with ACV stared 6 years ago when I stumbled across this face mask. The acid in this mask helps to gently exfoliate the skin, dissolving dead skin cells. I'll include the recipe for it below:

Ingredients:
- apple cider vinegar
- green tea bag
- honey
- sugar
Method:
- put one teaspoon of ACV in a bowl
- add two teaspoons of green tea
- then add five teaspoons of sugar
- finally, add one teaspoon of honey!
- stir the mixture well and if you want more of an exfoliant add more sugar.

Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush

Thursday, 20 August 2015
Clinique released their offering of a cleansing brush back in June of last year and I've owned mine since December. I decided to take my time before reviewing this as I wasn't always consistent in my use of it. A couple of weeks back now I had a really bad breakout and decided to introduce this back into my daily routine.
The brush is designed to be part of Clinique's 3 step skin care system but I incorporated it into my routine using other products. I start off by removing my makeup with either my Clinique take the day off cleansing balm or The Body Shop's camomile silky cleansing oil then I go onto use my Liz Earle cleanse and polish then follow up with my Clinique brush with Liz Earle's gentle face exfoliator.
After a week of use my skin feels noticeably softer and brighter! Any spots that appear seem to be smaller and generally less aggressive. The brush head is specially designed with the green bristles being angled to get in the awkward nooks and crannies with the bristles being firmer and shorter to specially target the oily T-Zone. The white bristles are generally softer to work on the delicate cheek areas. There's a time on the brush with it going off after 30 seconds to make sure you don't overwork your skin. As well as this the battery life is amazing!

La Roche-Posay Serozinc Review

Tuesday, 18 August 2015
I've been a fan of this handy little product for a while now thanks to Amelia Liana's videos but stopped using it around 6 months back due to having to get it shipped over. When in Glasgow a few weeks back I almost squealed with excitement in Boots when I realised they had started stocking it!
This nifty little toner easily fits into my skincare routine and is hassle free. I use it after cleansing and before moisturising in the morning and in between cleansing and applying my serum of a night time. It's super soothing helping to reduce red and irritated skin, apparently this is due to the zinc in the product. You can apply it in a few different ways, I typically spray it into a cotton pad and then continue to sweep it over my face, you can also spray it onto the face and pat in or just leave to absorb, as I have been known to do in the hot weather. Needless to say I wont be going without now that it's being stocked in the UK, in fact I may have just placed an order at Boots to add to my back up!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream // Review & Uses

Saturday, 15 August 2015
Whenever I bring this little tube of heaven up into conversation I always get two responses; either they've never heard of it before or we spend the next 10 minutes fangirling over the product. Not once have I met someone who has said a bad word about it.
Eight hour cream was created in the 1930's and originally used to soothe Arden's horses legs. I'd spent around 6 months reading about it online, but yet I never felt the need to go out and purchase. In the end my mum bought me a tube as a stocking filler for Christmas 2 years ago and I've never looked back, it's one of them products that as it's running out I run out and buy a new bottle so it's ready and waiting.
Firstly, the texture. It's an apricot coloured balm which I know can scare off a lot of people, leaving them thinking 'What do I do with this?!'. Secondly we need to address the scent. I personally love the smell, however the vast majority hate it. Don't let this put you off though as it's also available in a unscented version.
I mostly use this on my lips, cuticles and heels. I suffer really badly with dry lips and this is one of the only products I know that can recover them. I can go to bed with chapped lips, slather a load of this on and wake up in the morning and the flakes have gone and my lips are feeling plump, leaving me with long lasting results. As well as this I also use it on my lips for some gloss in the rare occasion that I'm out and about without any lipstick on me.
Personally I don't like cuticle oil, we just can't see eye to eye. This is where the eight hour cream steps in, it's a fare more thicker consistency and just seems to work at keeping my cuticles nourished and healthy.
My final favourite use for the eight hour cream is for hydrating my heels. I have a serious case of nurses feet, they're left cracked, sore and dry from the 13 hour shifts. I try to use Scholl Express Pedi at least 3 times a week and most nights to lather my heels in the balm and put some cotton socks on over the top and leave to soak overnight, in the morning they feel soft, smooth and plump.
Is there anyone out there who doesn't like the cream? Or has anyone got some uses that I may not know about? Leave me a comment!
