Split Croatia Travel Guide
At the end of July I went on holiday to the stunning city of Split on the Dalmatian Coast with my boyfriend Iain. I first became aware of Split when I watched one of them travel/cooking shows one night, I instantly googled it, fell in love and told Iain that's where we're going this summer. Split is an excellent base for going off on daily excursions or to move around from, with a lot of people stopping by just for a few days we decided to stay for a full week to truly experience what the city had to offer!

With 1,700 years of history to sink our teeth into we weren't disappointed. Split is Croatia's second biggest city, with a thriving night life you'll never be bored of anything to do. In the heart of Split is Diocletian's palace (a UNESCO world heritage site), with impressive roman ruins I felt like I was back in Rome itself! I didn't know what quite to expect when people told me about the palace, I imagined some ruins that I would have to pay to enter, how wrong I was. Within the ruins theres hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars, we spent hours mooching around inside here. There's also a tour of the palace where you can go underground to a few sets from Game of Thrones, remember in season 5 when Daenerys visited her Dragons in the dungeon and ended up fleeing up the stairs? That's right here in the basement of the palace. Also in the old town you can find the cathedral of Saint Dominus, the crypt is also included in the entrance, apparently it's the best preserved temple in Europe.

One of the highlights of Split is the amazing beaches, during our stay we went to Znjan Beach with it being a 10 minute walk from our apartment. With amazing bars and restaurants you can jump on a sun lounger and a waiter will be with you taking your drink order in a blink of an eye, in my case I spent my days sipping Aperol Spritz. The beaches here amazing, the water is lovely and clear coming in from the Adriatic sea, unfortunately they're not sandy beaches but I grew accustomed to this. Being totally honest who even likes sand, it gets everywhere.

One of the advantages of staying in Split is it's location, it's a great base to travel around from and to go on excursions. During our visit we decided to take one of the excursions to Krka National Park. We left early in the morning and had a quick walking tour of the town Šibenik on the way there where we toured the Cathedral of St.James.
Krka National Park
On our tour we were lucky enough to take the water boat over to the national park rather than driving in, this provided us with some stunning views on the way in. Then we were left to tour the park by ourselves with 3 hours of free time. Being myself I naturally made a beeline to the waterfall you can swim in straight away, now I will warn you here the currents from the waterfall can be quite strong and it's quite difficult swimming up to the fall. However, you can just go paddling at the very base of the fall. After this we hiked up the park and it was hard work especially in the 36 degree heat.
